The yin yang illustrates the traditional Chinese recognition of opposites and the union of opposites in objects or phenomena: light and dark, man and woman, summer and winter, heaven and earth.
In place of a finial, the top of this very attractive teapot features two rounded openings that complement the overall yin yang design. The handle is flaired at the top, and the spout is separated and then rejoined, again bringing to mind the philosophy of yin and yang.
Eight sand-colored bars on the shoulder appear identical at a glance but are actually different patterns. The teapot is a dark, earthy brown accented with the sand-colored bars.
